Mount Rushmore

Since we were literally the first ones through the gate and into the parking lot, we were able to get a very good parking spot and had the luxury to the place to ourselves for a few moments.

The biggest reason I packed my tripod with us.

It was pretty cold that morning and thankfully, I'd left a hat in the diaper bag for this little guy!

The girls took off and decided to go down a TON of steps to the stage than they have for ceremonies.

Mike being all patriotic and awesome in his Captain America shirt.

Each pole had state flags around it with the date that they were admitted into the union.

As we were leaving and driving down the road we realized that not many people see this from the side, so we turned around a little and took a picture.

Even though it was out of the way, Mount Rushmore was definitely a stop that we'd make again.  Perhaps a little later in the season when it's not quite so cold in the morning.  There were beautiful trails and landscapes everywhere you turned.  The trees and the mountains came together with the monument in such a way that only being there can really justify how amazing it is.  This is a MUST STOP for any family traveling through the great west.
